What is Cellulite ?
We hear a lot of women complain today about cellulite, and of
course we also see a lot of advertisements about cellulite cream,
cold creams, and other treatments for them. A lot of women say
that it is unsightly, that it diminishes their beauty, and that
it also makes them feel insecure and not pretty enough. Obviously,
cellulite is mainly a woman’s thing. Women are more conscious
of their bodies than men, so it is natural that they have more
praises or even complaints about their bodies. But what really
is cellulite? And how does it come about?
Cellulite is the overhanging of fat under your skin into the skin
itself, causing the skin to dimple because of the swelling of the
junction between the fatty layer and the skin itself. It is sometimes
called orange peel syndrome, cottage cheese skin, hail damage, or
mattress phenomenon, all because the skin looks a lot like these
materials when cellulite happens. We have to remember that cellulitis
is completely different from cellulite. Cellulitis, with the “-itis”
as suffix, is an infection of the skin and the tissues underneath
it.
Cellulite is more common in women than in men. It has been seen
in some men taking hormonal replacements for prostate cancer, or
those with hypogonadism. This clearly shows that there is a direct
link between cellulite formation and women’s hormones.
Although cellulite is not harmful to a woman’s health, it
poses a certain degree of stress on her emotional well being. Cellulite
is said to make women conscious of their bodies, especially in the
summer, when people are off to beaches and pools, wearing those
skimpy outfits for summer. The dimpling is too embarrassing.
A lot of cellulite solutions have been introduced in the market
today, like massages, lotions, and even invasive procedures like
liposuction. These remedies have not been proven effective yet.
The best remedy for cellulite reduction today, is having the right
diet, exercising regularly, and lessening intake of drinks that
also cause a buildup of fat deposits.
You have to remember, that as a woman, your beauty lies within
you, and your personality. It is not about your outside appearance,
its all about what’s on the inside.
